Family and friends

As Christmas draws nearer it is time to reflect on the importance of our family and friends during this holiday season.   This summer we attended a KERR family reunion (on my dad’s side) on Vancouver Island.  We made a trip of it, spending a week kayaking and relaxing on Denman Island with my mother, our son and daughter in law before attending the reunion.

Our KERRs came from Ireland sometime between 1841 and 1847 and settled in the Eastern Townships of Quebec.  My grandfather Homer Kerr migrated west to Saskatchewan, married Elizabeth Wilson and had a large family.  Our family and its descendents have spread across the country from Halifax, NS to Port Alberni BC.  About 60 of us gathered in Lantzville, BC in July 2008 for the reunion to catch up and re-establish old ties.  It was a great time.  The picture below shows some of us waving at cousin in law Rick as he flew his float plane over.  He gave rides in his plane all day long.  What a trooper!

Which baby picture belongs to you?

We genealogists spend a lot of time tracking down long lost relatives long gone from this world.  At this time of year it is important to remember the living ones and all that they mean to us.  As the year draws to a close I wish you peace, good will and fun times with your family.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Warmly,

Joan
