Finding Obituaries published in Saskatchewan newspapers

The Saskatchewan Newspaper Index Online indexes many obituaries at:
http://library2.usask.ca/sni/

Saskatoon Public Library indexes obituaries that appear in The Saskatoon StarPhoenix. Send the name of the deceased to Ask Us! and specify that it should be in the StarPhoenix obituary index (fees for photocoping may apply).

Regina Public Library indexed obituaries in the Regina newspaper, from 1935 and 1943. Send the name of the deceased to Ask Us! and specify that it should be searched in the LeaderPost index for this time period.

Obituaries published after September 8, 2000 in the Regina Leader Post are available with full text and photos at http://www.saskobits.com/.

Searches of microfilm copies of local newspapers can be considered if the obituary cannot be found through an index. First, search for the newspaper in which the obituary likely appeared. If you do not know the newspaper name, try searching the probable city/town. Next, identify the probable death date.

The Library and Archives Canada has a listing of local Saskatchewan newspapers on microfilm at: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/8/18/r18-206-e.html

Historical runs of Saskatchewan city/town newspapers are located in the Saskatchewan Archives and may also be held by some local public libraries.  Public libraries may be able to obtain the newspaper/microfilm through interlibrary loan. Photocopying fees may be applied.
