Generation Maps (Family ChArtist) was one of the vendors present at Family History Expo I attended in Mesa in January 2010.

What a great service they are offering! You can take your family tree information and create every type of chart and poster you can imagine….AND customize to just how you might like it.

I especially like the decorative charts. Here are some examples.

I never know what to get and this would be a perfect gift for a genealogy type person like myself to give to family members.

Language of its own

Genealogy has a language of its own, and unlike most hobbies has more than its fair share of abbreviations. It is quicker to record someone was ‘b.’ in 1850 and ‘d.’ in 1910 rather than using ‘born’ and ‘died’. With the printing of family trees it makes it easier for one to include extensive information with each entry. Some abbreviations like ‘m.’ for ‘married’ are obvious, whereas others like ‘asr.’ for assessor are less obvious. Check the Abbreviations ‘dictionary’ at Rootsweb.com for an extensive list of abbreviations.
